Cloud Nothings - Attack on Memory

Cloud Nothings just popped up on my radar from being on the “Best New Music” section of Pitchfork (Yes, I’m a loser that gets some of my musical suggestions from Pitchfork) and blew me away with its uniqueness compared to what I have been listening to lately.  High school/punk phase Adam would be right at home with the driving, alt-punk sound on Attack on Memory and 2012 Adam loves the straight-ahead energy it brings compared to some of the weird, complex electronic sounds you hear so often today.  ”Stay Useless” is a great anthemic song to get you started with this album.

Gotye - Making Mirrors

I really dont know what to say about this album, I’m just beginning to get into it, but I like what I hear.  I think its been out for a bit in Australia and all over Nashville’s Lightning 100, but I’m a little slow on the uptake.  It just came out on Rdio, and my first listen was a fun one.  This album doesn’t suffer from the problem that a lot of albums do, rather it keeps you guessing and happy with all the different styles and sounds it explores.  It make have so many different styles that it lacks a cohesive voice, but I dont care.  I have a feeling I’ll come back to this one often.

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die

I’m really glad that I’ve avoided whatever craziness and hating has been going on with Lana Del Rey on the internet because this album and Lana’s voice are really growing on me.  I’m not sure if she’s a great artist or and decent human being, but I really don’t care.  The album mixes a cool downtempo trip-hop sound with pop and R&B to, what I think, is a listenable and fun result.  No, it’s not perfect.  I’ll probably grow to hate it once its been overplayed for months (see: Adele).  For now, though, I’ll keep it in the rotation.
